Having a clear, fresh face is hard to come by when you go about a hectic day. There are so many aggressors; wind, dirt, makeup, oils from your fingers etc. From a quick touch of your finger to the ripping wind, your face becomes prone to blemishes and dryness. This being said, your skin needs a lot of care and attention. When using the right products and maintaining a daily routine, your skin can be clean and radiant; you just need to know what it needs.

1. Wash Your Face Daily.

It’s incredibly redundant, but vital to a healthy skin routine, morning and night. In the morning washing your face freshens your skin after having suffocated it into a pillow for eight hours. This replenishes your pores and prevents dryness, making you feel ready for the day. And washing your face before bed clears the dirt, leftover makeup and gunk that came from your day. Making sure your face is clean and hydrated on a daily basis prevents dirt from clogging pours, which may cause future blemishes.

2. Don’t Sleep With Your Makeup On.

It’s a crime that most women commit on the daily, but it has to be known that your pores are suffering every time. Going to bed with makeup on is a no-no for your skin because it clogs pours, creates under eye circles and makes you feel crusty when you wake up. Before going to bed just splash water on your face and take a tissue, cleaning up the excess eyeliner or mascara left over. By doing that you’ll wake up feeling less grimy and your pores will thank you.

3. Drink Water, Water and More Water.

Drinking a glass of water before you go to bed and right after you get up in the morning transforms your day in many ways. Consistently drinking water as the day progresses helps even more. Not only are you keeping hydrated, which has many health benefits, but your skin is also hydrated, preventing dryness and promoting a clear, renewed looking face. Investing in a reusable water bottle will be a reminder and easy way to casually sip as your day goes on.

4. Chill Out With The Makeup.

Sometimes I see women at the gym wearing foundation, mascara and eye shadow running on a treadmill and every time it baffles me. Not only is their sweat going to react badly with their overload of makeup, but also their pores are being suffocated with the layers of foundation. Caking on your makeup is never a good thing and when it’s a daily routine, you’re skin eventually will start reacting badly. It’s begging for a breather. Make a conscious effort to leave your face untouched for a day or two and try to create a makeup style that doesn’t overwhelm your face as much. Foundation and eye shadow doesn’t have to be an everyday thing.

5. Exfoliate/ Moisturize Your Skin.

Buying a cheap facemask cream at CVS is a worthy investment. By occasionally exfoliating your skin with a mask it deeply cleans your skin, more so then a daily face wash. Now and again it’s always good to treat your face with a spa day. You can apply the mask on a lazy Sunday and loaf around for a little bit then wash it off and feel your face brighten up after a deep cleaning.

6. Figure Out Your Skin Type.

Each person has a unique skin type, some oily and some dry. Once you figure out what your skin type is and what it needs, the next step is to buy products that accommodate your skin specifically. For example, I have very dry skin so I make sure to always have a face moisturizer and replenisher to hydrate my skin, but someone with oily skin would find products that work for them.

7. Get Enough Sleep.

Often times we find ourselves staying up late, till 3 or 4 am working on assignments, partying or just not being able to sleep and we wake up the next day feeling crummy. Without getting enough sleep your eyes form dark circles and wrinkles become more prevalent. Beauty sleep isn’t a myth, it’s actually very, very necessary so whenever you have a chance to catch up on some hours, take advantage.

By being conscious of all these things and adding another step into your morning and night routine, within a couple of days your face will feel brighter and cleaner, making a huge difference with self-confidence. Having a clear face is only a bonus when in the end, you ultimately feel better about yourself.
