It’s understandable to feel that achieving the natural look all women envy is a hefty goal to pursue; but fear not- looking healthy and happy is simple as long as you’re educated on what’s good for you and your skin.

Taking care of yourself is the most important thing to keep in mind when thinking about how to enhance your natural beauty. We’ve all had those days where we roll out of bed at 3 in the afternoon with makeup crusted to our faces and our hair knotted. In order to recover from days like those, a girl should become conscious of the easy everyday rituals that are essential to looking healthy and feeling beautiful. Below are some tips to get your natural look:

Clean Your Face.

So to start off simple; wash your face every day and night. Buy a cheap exfoliator from your local drug store and then incorporate the act of rinsing your face into your routine. The face wash will essentially clean your pores making your skin fresh, and you’ll wake up and go to bed feeling renewed and clean. Your skin will become softer, clearer and more glowing, and you’ll enjoy the special bonus of not needing the assistance of face makeup.

Remove Your Makeup Before Bed.

Along with washing your face, an even more important step is taking off your makeup before going to bed. I cannot stress this enough, even though I also slack myself. It’s understandable that on some lazy nights when you aren’t wearing a lot, you skip grabbing your makeup remover and shove your face right into your pillow. We have to realize that this is a no-no ladies! Keeping your makeup on can create dark under eye circles, acne, wrinkles and clogged pores. Taking the extra two minutes is well worth it in the long run.

Get Enough Sleep.

Also, getting the right amount of sleep is crucial in so many ways. We’ve all seen ourselves and others looking cracked out, running on only two hours of sleep. I’ve witnessed this many times usually around the time of finals week. Consistently becoming sleep deprived takes a toll not only on your skin, but your weight, and your mood. This all trickles down to the basic necessity of giving your body what it needs. When managing your sleep well (not over sleeping and not being sleep deprived) you’ll notice your skin becoming more clear and glowing, and also a spike in your energy, which controls your entire outlook on your day. Natural beauty is always best when you have a smile!

Drink Water.

Drinking water is a simple daily task that women can incorporate easily. Whether it’s taking multiple trips to a water fountain or investing in a cute reusable water bottle, keeping hydrated is good for the body, and keeps skin clear and you feeling revitalized.

Apply Natural Makeup.

With all these tips about keeping your skin clear and the face looking fresh and healthy from the inside, the next step to getting that natural look is to examine the outside; makeup. There are mixed opinions about how to apply and how much, and personally I’ve never explored too far in terms of eye shadows or blushes. I’ve always used makeup as an enhancer that highlighted little aspects of my face. My routine is to put a little eyeliner on my lower lid, some mascara, and a little powder on my face to even my tone out- that’s it. This is also all dependent on taste and style and what you’re comfortable with. In terms of getting the natural look, less is definitely more. There’s no need to paint pink circles on your cheeks or to have a flashy colored eye shadow popping from your face. Makeup for a natural look should mostly remain in the neutral colored tones (browns, tans, flesh tones). It should almost look like you have little to nothing on, so that when people see your face they’ll see you and not your makeup.

Women should pamper themselves every now and then. These are the days where you should find yourself relaxing in a robe with freshly painted nails, face mask, and a glass of wine. Remaining stress free is by far the best thing you could do for yourself. These little rituals can take your look a long way, and before you know it you’ll be looking in the mirror admiring your own natural beauty.
