5 Reasons You Should Do Something Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Being comfortable is awesome but sometimes being too comfortable can make us feel bored. If you're like me, you may love a set routine or structure, but that can often lead to feeling antsy or like you need to do something different.

As uncomfortable as it may initially be to do something out of the ordinary, it is almost always completely rewarding. Most people aren't actively trying to leave their comfort zone, whether it be social, physical or mental because they are literally, very comfortable.

That's why it can serve as a great reminder that we're all capable of extraordinary things, every time we try something a little different.

So if you're looking to change up your normal routine or just try something new, here are 5 reasons why doing this is so beneficial:

1. Provides A Challenge

Being challenged doesn't always sound like a good thing, but in this case, it completely is. If you're challenging yourself to try something new, you're taking a step towards bettering yourself.

Trying something out of character can be scary. Maybe you've decided to run a marathon, to take up meditation, try a new hobby etc. Whatever challenge you have decided to present yourself with, the outcome is going to be unknown. The scariest part can be not knowing if we will succeed or fail, but the perk here is that it doesn't matter.

Trying something new will remind you that you're capable of pretty much anything and worst case, you're not great at what you try. The point is you gave it a shot, and learned something new.

2. Boosts Self-Esteem

This connects with the idea of presenting yourself with a challenge. Whether you have tried something physically or mentally new and challenging (regardless of the outcome) you have done it. This in itself is incentive enough to boost your self-esteem.

You've tried and experienced something completely different and you should feel good about yourself for it. The more we experience and learn, the more cultured and knowledgeable we feel. Thus we feel better about ourselves.

3.You'll Feel Empowered

You will feel empowered. Trying something new can be a baby step or link to many  new experiences and opportunities ahead. After the first instance of pushing yourself outside the box, you may start to feel less and less hesitant about getting out of your normal routine, and you may even discover a new hobby or passion.

After taking the initial jump to try something different, you'll feel confident going into anything else you decide to take on.

4.You'll Learn More About Yourself

I think trying anything new provides opportunities for us to learn about ourselves. We may take away small lessons but regardless, this all plays a role in the bigger picture of who we are as human beings.

Anytime we challenge ourselves by doing or trying something different or something that pushes us to be different, we can learn from it. Whether the challenge is huge or minuscule you can learn from it.

From these experiences, we can see how we work under pressure, under the fear of trying something new and how we feel about it afterwards. All of this helps provide deeper insight as to how we tick, individually.

5. You Can Form Positive Relationships

Not only does trying something new provide the chance to gain new experiences, it also provides a link to meeting new and like-minded people. If you meet someone by doing the very thing that scared or challenged you, you have the opportunity to form an incredibly special bond or friendship.

Meeting people through shared challenges or goals is a great way to make friends who are supportive and passionate. These same people will help serve as reminders in our lives that we should never stop leaving ourselves open and vulnerable to the new or unknown.

Having a friend who shares the idea that we should push our limits and jump out of our comfort zone, is like having our own personal motivational coach. They will push you, and vice-versa.

Leaving our comfort zone is and can be incredibly hard. However, after you take the initial leap, the benefits, people and experiences that you can be exposed to, are completely worth the risk.
