Life throws us curve balls; many events are quite unavoidable. However, when it comes to your own happiness and state of mind, most of the time, the ball is in your court.
It is so easy to blame your feelings of anger or disappointment on other people or things. It's always easier to make excuses for our emotions, thoughts or predicaments than to actually make a change, but change is almost always our best bet.
Yes, change means making a significant effort and that can turn people off, but this change is worth it. You have the complete power to make your life what you want it to be. Forgive the cliche of this, but it is so true.
If you want to be happy and content then you need to figure out what that means for you; everyone has a different idea of happiness. What's yours?
It's simple and effortless to blame the world for your current situation, but it also won't get you anywhere. So often the things making us frustrated are the things we had the power to change all along.

People Treat You How You Let Them
This was always one of my biggest issues growing up; the social scene. It can be really hard to determine the difference between standing up for yourself and being unreasonable. I've found that it's best to go with your gut; trust yourself.
If you find yourself surrounded by people who don't value your opinions, put you down for no reason, or are extremely jealous and self-sabotaging, you don't need to keep them around.
You have made no lifetime commitment to a friend, and if they don't respect your wishes, they clearly don't respect your friendship either. You set the guidelines for how people treat you, and if they choose not to abide by them, cut them out of your life.
You have plenty to offer and friends who appreciate that. Keep those people around but don't waste energy on individuals who are trying to tear you down. If you eliminate these kinds of people from your social world, you will see things become a lot more drama free and peaceful. You are in control of how other people make you feel; remember that.
Jobs You Hate
I think it's fair that sometimes we have to put in the grunt work to earn the respect of others and climb the corporate ladder, but it's not fair to give up your dreams, either. It's one thing to be working towards a goal, but we shouldn't be wasting our time doing something we're not passionate about.
If you don't love what you're doing, please let yourself find it. It's easy to get caught up in the expectations of society and try to make them work for your own life, but sometimes it's just not meant to be. Think outside the box, maybe you need to try something different. Maybe you know exactly what it is you want to do but just haven't taken that initial step of 'doing it.'
If you have something you're genuinely passionate about that you could see yourself pouring your heart into, go for it. If you love or feel strongly about a particular job or idea, you automatically have the natural drive to make this dream come to life.
Don't let yourself waste your time and energy into something you don't care for. This is a choice you can make. You can decide to stay in a job you don't enjoy, or change your career path.
Your Overall Mindset
As a whole, your general perspective about life will influence how you handle whatever life throws at you. Keep in mind that you are completely in control of how you view the world, people and problems. If you have a bad or negative attitude about life, then no matter what happens, you'll never be satisfied and constantly facing disappointments.
If you choose to be positive through the highs and the lows, you will see that you're rewarded for it. People love positivity; we're naturally drawn to those who are happy and see the best in the world. If you have an overall good attitude about life, others will receive those good vibes.
If you remain optimistic, when something good comes your way it serves as a reminder that a good attitude pays off.
